Over many years the clients had adjusted and added areas/sections to their garden. They had reached a point to where they found the garden cluttered, unsafe and in need of repair.
The clients wished a formal garden with clear distinct level areas that was easy to maintain with the main use of Cotswold colours.
As a contrast to Cotswold, I suggested the use of dark blue and I also suggested a ‘ramp’ be included into the design as the clients were (how can I politely say?) mature, and they expressed that they have no intention of moving. So, hence a ramp to make travelling to the higher level easier, in particular with the possible use of ‘disabled’ access.

From house to rear, the difference in height was 1.8m. I created 2 clear levels mostly set at 90cm (which is perfect ‘work top’ height) and the remaining areas, including raised bed on higher level, 45cm high (which is perfect work height for wheelchair users). Overall, this means very little bending, making the garden desirable for the more mature person.
This photo shows the two ways you can commute to/from levels.
With the difference in height of the two levels being 90cm, a ramp of at least 9m needed to be incorporated into the design to create a useable wheelchair ratio of 1:10.
Attention to detail. How to slab a circle wit no odd gaps. All these curved cuts were done with 12” blade . . .
The shed previously dominated the view from the kitchen window and also created shade issues. To rectify, the design allowed the shed to be ‘tucked away’ but still very accessible.

“We asked Advanscape to redesign our garden which is sloped upward from our house in Redditch. We wanted something that was a ‘real’ garden but was easy to maintain. The result is excellent, with raised beds, inclined paths, a water feature, lawn and a superb quality of walls and paving. Steve produced a plan before beginning and agreed everything with us he began the development of our garden. We would certainly recommend Advanscape to anyone requiring a garden built to a professional quality.”
